A Fearful Heart
A Fearful Heart is a collaboration by Photographer Brian Rogers and Composer Michael Whiticker.
The Exhibition features a series of photographs and a soundscape that captures the spectacle and inherent heritage of the cane fire, one of Queensland's truly iconic images. Developed by the Australian Sugar Industry Museum the exhibition aims to trigger awareness of the social, economic and cultural issues faced by regional Queenslander’s due to the changes to the sugar industry while celebrating their spirit and contribution.
Fireworks
Fireworks explores the artistic responses to fire in a variety of media and a diverse range of styles. The project teases out the psychological impact of fire as a major element in shaping the Australian story. By tracing the interplay between humans and landscape with fire, the exhibition illuminates the character of both.
The vibrant colours of fire, particularly when set against a dark sky, provide for spectacular images. Also, the idea of fire as a consuming but renewing force also drive the artistic imagination.
The exhibition includes works by a diverse group of Australian artists including Sidney Nolan, Eugene von Guerard, Arthur Streeton, Fred Williams, Claudine Marzik, Ronnie Tjumpitjinpa, John Firth Smith and Wendy Sharpe. The works on display reflect experiences in the bush, the suburbs and the cities.
Refined White
Refined White, an initiative of the Australian Sugar Industry Museum presents historical images, artefacts and mementos from early Islander families and contemporary photographs of modern Australian South Sea Islanders living in close-knit communities along the Queensland coast.
The basis of the regional photographic component shot by Brian Rogers was a body of 1200 photographs which document the people and places that make up these communities along Queensland’s coast. They record their work and celebrations, their struggles and achievements, their pride and spirit.
This photographic exhibition toured around Australia including various State capitals and the National Museum in Canberra.
